What a Galaxy S25 is actually worth
The Galaxy S25 series launched in January 2026, which means by mid-2026 prices have settled into a stable pattern. The initial steep depreciation is over; what remains is a slower decline until the next generation is announced.
Offers vary meaningfully between recyclers for the same phone in the same condition, and the gap is wider than most people assume. On a device at this price point it is routinely enough to be worth ten minutes of comparison.
Compare live Galaxy S25 prices across recyclers to see the current spread rather than relying on a figure quoted anywhere, including here.
The three models sell very differently
Galaxy S25. The volume seller. More recyclers actively want it, which keeps competition healthy and offers reasonably consistent.
Galaxy S25+. Sits awkwardly between the other two. It rarely commands a proportional premium over the standard model, because buyers wanting more phone tend to jump straight to the Ultra rather than settling in the middle.
Galaxy S25 Ultra. Substantially higher offers, and a wider spread between recyclers. That combination matters: the same percentage difference on a higher-value phone is more money, so comparison is worth more here than anywhere else in the range.
We cover the Ultra separately in more depth, including how it compares against the previous generation, in our guide to selling a Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Storage matters more than people expect
Samsung sold the S25 range across several storage tiers, and the premium for higher capacity is significant, particularly on the Ultra.
The common mistake is comparing your phone against a headline "from" price, which almost always reflects the base configuration. If you have a 512GB or 1TB Ultra, that figure understates what you should be getting by a considerable margin.
Check the price for your exact storage tier before accepting anything. It is the single easiest way to lose money without realising.
What actually affects your offer
Condition grade does most of the work. Recyclers typically grade on screen condition first, body condition second, and functionality third. Screen damage costs more than back-glass damage because the repair is more expensive.
Battery health matters and is often overlooked. Below the threshold most recyclers use, you drop a grade regardless of how the phone looks cosmetically. Check yours before requesting quotes so the grade you select matches what they will find.
Network lock status. An unlocked phone reaches a wider pool of buyers and is worth more. If yours is locked to a network, unlocking before selling is usually worth the effort.
Included accessories. Some recyclers offer a small premium for the original box and charger; most accept the device alone without penalty. Worth checking the specific terms rather than assuming either way.
When to sell
Samsung announces new flagships in January, and prices for the outgoing range soften noticeably in the weeks around that announcement.
If you are planning to sell at some point, doing it before the next announcement rather than after is one of the few genuinely reliable ways to get more. The drop is predictable enough to plan around.
The autumn months are also worth considering: enough distance from the next launch that prices remain strong, but ahead of the rush of people upgrading around Black Friday, when supply increases and offers soften slightly.
Before you send it: the steps that protect your offer
These are not optional. Getting them wrong is the most common reason a quote gets revised downward or the sale falls through entirely.
Remove your Samsung account. Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts → Samsung account → Remove account. This is what clears Find My Mobile lock. A device arriving with the account still attached is either rejected outright or revalued to zero, and resolving it afterwards is slow.
Back up first. Once you factory reset, anything not backed up is gone. Samsung Cloud, Google account sync, or a computer transfer all work.
Factory reset. Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset.
Remove the SIM and any microSD card before resetting, not after.
Photograph the front and back clearly before packaging. If a dispute arises about condition on arrival, dated photographs are the only evidence you have.
Samsung's official reset guide covers the process in full if you want the manufacturer's own instructions.
Grade honestly
It is tempting to select the most flattering condition option and hope. It rarely works.
Recyclers inspect on arrival and regrade if your description does not match. The result is a revised offer, which you can usually reject and have the phone returned free of charge, but you have lost a week and gained nothing.
Describing the phone accurately gets you a quote that holds, which is worth more than a higher quote that does not.
Network trade-in versus recycler
Network trade-in schemes are convenient because they happen at the point of upgrade, and convenience has genuine value.
They are also frequently below what independent recyclers pay, sometimes by a margin large enough to change which upgrade makes sense. It costs nothing to get a recycler quote before accepting a trade-in offer, and the comparison takes a couple of minutes.
Compare Galaxy S25 recycler prices or Galaxy S25 Ultra prices before committing to anything at the point of sale.
The short version
Compare before you sell, check the price for your actual storage tier rather than the headline figure, remove your Samsung account properly, and grade honestly so the quote holds.
If you are upgrading rather than simply selling, get a recycler quote before accepting whatever trade-in value appears at checkout. That single comparison is usually the difference between a fair price and a convenient one.
