Is now a good time to recycle an iPhone 17?
Yes — but act before September 2026. Apple announces iPhone 18 in September. When that happens, iPhone 17 prices will drop 15–20% immediately as trade-in volumes spike and recyclers anticipate lower resale values.
July and August 2026 are the strongest months to recycle an iPhone 17. Prices are stable, demand from buyers for the iPhone 17 as a refurbished device is growing, and the September drop has not happened yet.
iPhone 17 Pro vs standard — recycling price gap
The Pro commands a significant premium. The iPhone 17 Pro Max in good condition fetches £140–£220 more than the standard iPhone 17. This reflects the titanium build, 5x optical zoom, Action Button and larger battery — features that drive strong refurbished buyer demand.
How to prepare your iPhone 17 for recycling
Back up first. iCloud: Settings → Your Name → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now.
Sign out of iCloud. Settings → Your Name → Sign Out. This disables Activation Lock — the single most important step. An iPhone 17 with iCloud lock active cannot be recycled and will be returned or revalued to zero.
Factory reset. Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings.
Remove your SIM. You will need it for your next phone.
Photograph before sending. Front, back and sides — evidence of condition.
What does recycling an iPhone 17 actually mean?
UK recyclers buy your iPhone 17, inspect and test it, and resell it as a certified refurbished device. The phone stays in use rather than going to landfill — better for the environment and better for your pocket than letting it sit in a drawer.
Every iPhone recycled through GadgetRank's comparison ends up with an approved UK refurbisher who grades and warrants it before resale. The best price comes from the recycler currently paying most for your specific model.
