How to factory reset your Samsung Galaxy before selling

June 2025

Selling your Samsung Galaxy? Here's everything you need to do before it leaves your hands.

Step 1: Back up your data

Open Settings → Accounts and backup → Back up data. Select everything you want to keep and tap Back up now. You can restore this on your new device using your Samsung account.

Step 2: Remove your Samsung account

Go to Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts → Samsung account → Remove account. Confirm when prompted.

This is the equivalent of signing out of iCloud on an iPhone. Without doing this, the recycler may not be able to reset the phone properly.

Step 3: Factory reset

Go to Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset → Reset. You'll be asked to confirm — tap Delete all. The phone will reboot and return to the setup screen.

Remove your SIM and memory card

Take out your SIM card and any microSD card before posting. Keep both safe.

Check the Find My Mobile feature is off

Go to Settings → Biometrics and security → Find My Mobile → make sure it's toggled off. This prevents remote lock issues after the sale.
