Coverage — draw
Both networks run on EE's 4G and 5G infrastructure. Coverage is identical. If EE has signal where you live and work, both 1pMobile and Ecotalk will too. There is no meaningful difference here.
Pricing
1pMobile is the cheapest SIM on the market for very light users. Their pay-as-you-go tariff charges 1p per minute for calls and 1p per text, making it possible to spend as little as £1–2 per month. Monthly bundles start from £5 for 5GB data with unlimited calls and texts.
Ecotalk does not offer PAYG — all plans are monthly bundles. Plans start from £4/month (no data, calls and texts only) and go up to unlimited. Ecotalk's monthly bundles offer more data per pound than 1pMobile at the mid-tier level.
EU roaming
1pMobile: no EU roaming included as standard — you need to add a bolt-on.
Ecotalk: EU roaming included on all plans at no extra cost.
If you travel to Europe regularly, Ecotalk is clearly better. If you never leave the UK, this doesn't matter.
Price guarantee
Ecotalk has a price-rise guarantee — your monthly cost will never increase. 1pMobile does not make this commitment, though as a PAYG-style network, their model is inherently more flexible.
Environmental impact
Ecotalk donates all profits to UK nature restoration projects. 1pMobile does not have an environmental mission. If sustainability matters to you, Ecotalk wins.
Which should you choose?
Choose 1pMobile if: you use your phone very lightly (mainly calls and texts), you want the absolute cheapest option, or you want maximum flexibility with PAYG pricing.
Choose Ecotalk if: you travel to Europe, you want more data for your money at mid-tier, you care about environmental impact, or you want a price-rise guarantee.
